Reply Function (Threads)
How to Use the Reply Function (Threads)
Purpose: Keep track of conversations that branch off by replying to specific messages.
Step-by-step:
-
Find the specific message you want to reply to
-
Tap “Reply” on the message (or use the long press menu)
-
Write your reply
-
Your reply appears as a thread under the original message
-
The original message is quoted/linked to preserve context
Why it’s useful:
Scenario: Project channel with 50 messages on different topics
Without threads:
-
Message #23: “When will the materials arrive?”
-
Message #48: “Materials arrive Tuesday” ← But which materials?
With threads:
-
Message #23: “When will the materials arrive?”
-
→ Reply: “Materials arrive Tuesday” ← Clearly shows what is being referred to
-
Example uses:
-
In a discussion on three different topics, you can reply to one topic without confusing the others
-
Respond to a specific question from message #23 even if there are 50+ messages in the channel
-
Maintain structure even when multiple conversations are happening in parallel
