# What is a Change order?

This article explains what a change order is, when it is used in construction projects, and how change orders makes it easy to create, document, and communicate project changes effectively.

### **What is a Change order?**

Change orders are typically used in the following situations:

**Changes in project scope**

When there is a need to modify the originally agreed-upon work during a construction project, such as adding new tasks.

**Unforeseen events**

If unexpected problems or obstacles arise, such as hidden damages discovered during the project, which require extra work or changes to the plan.

**Price adjustments**

If the changes in the project affect the overall costs, this will also be noted in a change order. This ensures that all parties agree on the new offer.

**Communication between parties**

A change order also serves as a communication tool between the various parties involved in a construction project. It creates clarity and ensures that everyone is up to date on changes and adjustments to the project.
